Long time no blogging…

So it’s has been some time now between blogposts.

This week has ben quite a buissy one, with a mineral technical conferance tusday and wensday including a banquette. For future reference on these thing, event if it’s free booze it’s not mandatory to drink it. A lesson I don’t get, eventhough I have had many oppertunities to remember it. The conferance was the last one in one of the old professor of the mineral department. Prof. Erik Forssberg is retireing and I wish I had just a small fraction of his knowledge about mineral processing then I would quadruple my current knowledge about mineral processing.

As usual every time I get close to a few hundred new people, I get sick afterwards. This happens every time!!! I’m quite sick of being sick…

My first lab reports to correct have been handed to me, and I have some big problems keeping the “evil gene” in check. Hopefully they won’t think I’m to hard on them, but it’s a wakeup call for me as to the knowledge I do posses.

Also I have started a new department (to affiliated to any university yet), it’s the:

Department of insane application of technology and doubius research

Current employee’s so far is me as head of department. First order of buissnes is to hire a secretary, as all departments need this. To apply just post a comment 😉

Currently I don’t have a logo or buissnes  cards, but all in due time.

Now it’s time to get some tea and slip into the foggy sleep that will be interrupted at 06:30 tomorrow for me to do some laundry…

New places…

Well. The week is over and depending how you count the shift of the days between Saturday /Sunday, I’m writing this on a Saturday. It’s not Sunday until you have gone to bed, and woken up somewhat relaxed (nightly toilet breaks do not count).

Me and a friend went to see the new student pub tonight, and it was a strange experience. The pub / nightclub looks like a school cafeteria, with two bars in the distant and some tables in-between. I took some pictures, but not that great that I want to upload them. Will have to go back there during the day to take some good shots.

Some statistic:

  • Time to wait in line for me: 2 minutes
  • Time to wait in line for students: 45min -> 1 hour (it’s good to be a VIP)
  • Time before a table broke: 2,5 hours.
  • Number of fire alarms that works: 0 (somewhat of a problem I think…)
  • People I recognize: 20 (out of 800, is this what it’s like to be getting old???)

Also I have booked me a flight away from here to visit a friend in NorrtĂ€lje ( X km north of Stockholm). I usually think Norrköping, but that’s just wrong… So for the 17:th to the 23:rd of March I’m having a vacation! It’s going to be nice to be able to spend some time someplace that’s not here.

Tomorrow (today according to the time stamp on this post), I will start the day at 7am (07:00) with some laundry, then at least 2 hours at the gym. Some sleep and at 11pm (23:00) I will go to one of my friends flat and watch the “unknown number” Super bowl. I will have to learn some rules for American football before that so I know what is happening.

Chasing the clock

Well, almost forgot one thing. It’s my bothers 17th birthday today. Happy birthday to you, and don’t play The Burning Crusade all the time. You have a Wii

Also on that note, here is my all time favourite birthday link

Arrogant Worms – Happy Birthday

First lab done…

Today was my first day as a lab assistant. The experience was somewhat of an odd one. On one hand it’s a rather easy lab, but trying to anticipate all questions the students may have. The lab as such is quite a “wet” one, and there water is everywhere.

The lab as such went rather smoothly, but we did have some serious malfunctions on one old way to measure surface area. That was an experience to fix that. It’s so “old” that it works by pressure and leverage principals… Or as our supervisor said about it’s age:

About 6-7 years ago a student was baffled about how it works and asked the question: Where do you turn it on?

A legit question maybe, but it’s older than the invention called “computer”…

On the note of computers, I have had it with Internet Explorer and it’s idiosyncrasies with not following the xhtml+css  standards. Xhtml  run in stric mode works quite well, but to design gool looking websites in this mode then you have to have full support for CSS (both v1 and v2). The site looks good in both Firefox and Opera, but it looks like shit in IE and we are talking about IE7, relesed to my computer (swedish version), only a week ago. Seriously thinking about blocking all browsers identifying itself as IE. Rant over, off to bed!!!

Poetry in motion…

I have had a lot of questions about an N/A message that I have used on ICQ and MSN, and people are asking where it came from. I would like to share that passage with you all.

I walk among the living, though I’m not alive.
Neither am I dead, as the days goes by.
In the void between worlds, this is where I live.
Forced to never feel alive, or quietly pass away.

Where is it from… Simple answer: I wrote it about two weeks ago. The feeling I had when writing it was “undead with a mission to feel all the worlds pain”. Personally I think it’s more like a description of a undead species in a RPG game…

Damn it jim, I can’t do it…

Today was the first time I was to the gym, with my newly paid for membership. It was a painful experience to say the least. I rode a bike for 20 km (exersize bike) and at the end of 40 minutes of cycling my legs hurt like hell, though not at much as my ass. Those bike seats are really uncomfortable, and I will have to bring a small towel or something to get a softer seat. It may however also be my fat ass that gives that “high pressure” from the seat, but that is a road better not taken.

Also I have started to hate my browser for the latest 2-3 days now. Unexplainable errors, arrow keys not wanting to move in text fields, Ctrl + C that doesn’t work, USB storage devices that hinder the boot of my comp. The list goes on. I can’t wait until Microsofts new Laser Desktop 8000 comes on the scene. Say what you like about some of their software, but their hardware is always something that is good in my book. I’m writing this on a old Natural Keyboard Pro, and it’s way better than anything else I have tried. And for those wondering, it’s a “ergonomic” keyboard.

On monday I will start the first of 14-16 lab classes this semester. I’m a bit nervous, but as my professors said “let them squirm a little before you help them out”. This has my evil gene going crazy… I’m gona’ make them squirm like nothing they have ever seen before.
